What is an LED
Light Emitting Diodes commonly referred to as LED’s are a form of light bulb. LED’s are much more energy efficient than previous energy saving light bulbs. LED’s are also much safer as they do not contain mercury which requires special disposal.
Can I use a dimmer switch with an LED?
Yes, however, it is dependant upon the LED that is being installed. The LED must be manufactured to allow for dimmable.
Why do LEDs cost more than standard bulbs
Due to the components that a LED is comprised from (gold wire, ceramic, rare earth phosphors, silicone etc)
How much energy can you save?
LEDs on average last at least 50 times longer than a standard bulb. Typically LED’s have a average lifespan of 50,000 hours compared to CFLs which have a lifespan of about 15,000.
Do LEDs cause headaches
At present there is no medical light sensitivity issues associated with LEDs. Old fluorescent tubes operate at mains frequency which results in a flicker causing migraine sufferers to be affected. Newer CFLs should not flicker more than a computer screen / TV. Like with every medical situation some sufferers may have sensitive triggers such as the brightness of the light.
